No reports of three students infected with H1N1 in Malacca: Dr Subramaniam

MALACCA: The Health Ministry has yet to receive any reports on claims that three students at a Chinese National Type School (SJKC) here are infected with the Influenza A (H1N1) virus which went viral on social media.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said his ministry was still awaiting a report from the Malacca Health Department on the claims and closely monitoring any development on the matter.
"I hope the public do not speculate on the matter," he told reporters after opening the three-day Johor Tamil National Type School (SJKT) headmasters leadership quality training course in Ayer Keroh here today.
Since last week, a 54-second duration audio message went viral in the Whatsapp application in what sounded like a man warning students of SJKC Bukit Beruang not to attend classes as he claimed a large group of students, including his children, had been admitted to a private hospital due to H1N1 infection.
Meanwhile, Malacca Health, Sports Development and Anti-Drug Committee deputy chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon said the state Health Department was still investigating the claims.
"I have personally made checks at that hospital, which confirmed there is only one suspected case and I deny any claims that many students were admitted there due to H1N1," he said.
He said the public needed not have to worry because the state Health Department would conduct checks on such cases from time to time and take appropriate action if the infection occurs. — Bernama
