AMPANG JAYA: Police are investigating the case of a teenager who had attacked his mother for money after the incident went viral on social media since Tuesday.
The 40-second clip showed the 15-year-old boy hitting his mother, punching her arm repeatedly and demanding money from her.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said police were alerted to the incident after a report on the viral video had been made by the boy's family.
The cause of the matter was believed to be over pocket money and the incident took place at a flat in the district.
Hamzah said police had received a report from the boy's father who requested no further action taken on his son.
"The incident happened on Sept 26 at about 7.20am. The clip was recorded by the man's daughter who then sent the video to him.
"The man sent the video to the boy's teacher, believing that the teacher would advise the boy on his behaviour," Hamzah said in a statement today.
Hamzah said the man had decided to lodge the report as the family was worried for the boy's safety after the video had gone viral.
"A lot of people contacted the father to ask about the incident," he said.
Police had recorded statements from the woman and the boy.
Police have also taken the urine sample of the boy to ascertain whether he was under the influence of drugs.
He added that the mother suffered no injuries.
