IPOH: The only tin dredge in the country which is now a museum located in Tanjung Tualang near here, will be opened to the public next month.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the dredge is a relic of a once lucrative industry in the state as well as the country.
"It has now become a popular tourist attraction with three movies shot at the location.
"We also have to cater to the current generation ... they like history but we have to prepare something which attracts them," he told reporters after visiting the dredge as part of his visit to Kampar and Batang Padang.
There were some 60 dredges in the country with the majority operating in Perak in the years before the collapse of the tin industry in the 80s.
Tanjung Tualang, one of the major tin mining towns, saw five dredges mining for the ore.
Meanwhile, MB Inc Chief Executive Officer Datuk Aminudin Hashim said the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) had made some recommendations on the safety aspects.
"Only 20 visitors with guides will be allowed at any one time into the dredge," he added, saying that a fee of RM10 will be charged per person.
