Wan Azizah questions MACC's vetting of candidates

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail does not see any reason why Pakatan Harapan should send their list of candidates for the coming elections to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for vetting.
Questioning the need for the anti-graft body to conduct vetting on prospective election candidates, the coalition president pointed out that it has its own vetting system.
"Why do they need to vet? We will do our own vetting.
"If need be, of course we'll send. At the moment, I'm just saying, who is MACC?" she told reporters, here, today.
Wan Azizah was responding to MACC chief Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad's statement on Tuesday urging all other political parties to follow Barisan Nasional's footsteps and send their list of prospective candidates to the commission for vetting on corruption and abuse of power.
Dzulkifli had said that while it was not compulsory, only BN had handed over their list of candidate names to the MACC.
Wan Azizah said the coalition was also not interested in sending its own list of candidates due to the "double standards" of MACC.
"BN's list (was submitted) because I think they already have a problem, haven't they? So they have to go through. We of course have our own internal vetting.
"You must also remember that from MACC's history, actions are taken against the opposition very swiftly. But when it involves the other corner, there are selective prosecution. So we have to be wary," she said.
