A 16-year collaboration between Nestle Omega Plus and Yayasan Jantung Malaysia (YJM) resulted in a great turnout at this year’s “Walk-A-Mile” event. In conjunction with World Heart Day and Nestle’s fervent commitment in inspiring Malaysians towards taking positive steps for better heart health, participation this year exceeded expectations, drawing a crowd of almost 4,000 people.
From as early as 6am (or earlier), participants gathered at Taman Tasik Perdana, some with family, some with friends, others unaccompanied; across various age groups including babies in strollers right up to those in their 70s and above.
Clearly, Nestle Omega Plus’ #StopTheCount campaign was influential in drawing a crowd to step out and make lifestyle changes for healthier hearts.
HEART OF THE MATTER
This year, the Walk-A-Mile event incorporated engaging and exciting activities set to provide participants with the opportunity to learn about heart health, its importance and to become proactive in taking charge of their own health.
From Zumba sessions to get the crowd warmed-up and the hearty mile-long walk which incorporated quizzes and obstacles on cholesterol facts and myths about cholesterol, as well as free health and cholesterol checks plus healthy Nestle breakfasts, games, etc. In its entirety, the event was inspiring, especially encouraging for Nestle personnel to see participants queuing up to put up their pledges committing to heart-healthier lifestyles and diets.
Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad Dairy Milks Business Unit business executive officer Ng Su Yen said that Nestle is committed to empower Malaysians to lead longer, healthier lives through lifestyle changes, proper diets and regular physical activity. Through its partnership with YJM, the pair are steadfast in fulfilling Nestle’s purpose “of enhancing the quality of life and contributing to a healthier future for all”.
FROM THE HEART
As part of its commitment in helping Malaysians achieve better heart health, Nestle presented a RM30,000 cheque to YJM. The company is also proud to offer Malaysians Nestle Omega Plus milk, which contains plant sterols and omega 3 and 6, scientifically proven to lower cholesterol levels that help reduce the risk of heart disease.
Throughout the month of August and September, Nestle Omega Plus also ran a series of walks around the country to encourage healthier lifestyles and promote awareness on heart health. Nestle also churns out periodicals on health and promotes healthy living among its staff, providing free regular cholesterol checks for its employees.
