MNS wants Lotong Cenekah monkeys in Johor protected

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) will be cooperating with the Nature Society (Singapore), Raffles' Banded Langur Working Group (RBLWG) and Iskandar Regional Development Authority to carry out studies on the species of monkey known as Lotong Cenekah.
Only found in Johor and Singapore, Lotong Cenekah (Raffles' Banded Langur in English) or scientific name presbytis femoralis is smaller in size than most monkeys, has black fur over the body except for the stomach area where it is white.
MNS deputy president Vincent Chow said the species was now facing problems because of destruction of its habitat due to development and poaching for sale online.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a workshop on protecting the species, here today.
