GEORGE TOWN: Two Penang chefs emerged tops at the 2017 World Master Chef Competition for Cantonese Cuisine in Hong Kong this month.
Gary Lim Lee Sheng, 27, and Jason Lim Soon Ming, 25, beat 160 teams from 44 countries with their speciality dish of garupa fish with fish bone gravy.
Lee Sheng said the award was something significant for him and said he was happy to do the state and nation proud.
"This achievement is for the country as well," he said in a press conference with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
His partner, Soon Ming, from Sungai Petani, said this was the first time he had received such an award.

Lim complimented the duo on their win and presented them with RM800 each and a certificate of appreciation.
Earlier, Lim announced the appointment of Muslim preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin as one of his information officers at the Chief Minister's Office.
Wan Ji, 35, from Kelantan PKR took his oath before Lim at Komtar today.
