ALOR STAR: The Public Services Commission (PSC) took action against civil servants involved in 66 disciplinary cases nationwide last year, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun.
In 2015, the number of disciplinary cases that the PSC acted against stood at 68.
Entulu said the number of disciplinary action cases involved nine cases of absenteeism in 2016 (25 in 2015); 28 code of conduct violations in 2016 (23 in 2015); and 29 cases of criminal offence in 2016 (20 in 2015).
“Although there was only a slight drop in the number of disciplinary action cases, (nevertheless) it indicates department heads are now more firm in taking decisive action on civil servants who commit offences,” he told reporters after officiating a career carnival organised by the PSC.
He said according to Article 144 of the Federal Constitution, the PSC was empowered to control and manage disciplinary action with the aim of processing dismissal or demotion action against top management, management and professional groups.
Therefore, Entulu reminded all civil servants to adhere to the code of conduct and integrity to avoid disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, he hoped applicants, especially youths, who sought jobs in the civil service prepared for the examination and interview, besides being interactive to boost confidence and prepare themselves with general knowledge.
The one-day career carnival was aimed at explaining the PSC’s roles and open opportunities for the public to obtain more information on civil service careers. — Bernama
