GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Citizens Awareness Chant Group has urged the state government to engage in another round of public consultation for the proposed three paired roads under the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).
Its adviser, Yan Lee said initially, the public consultation was carried out two years ago but it was considered incomplete without the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
He said at that time, there were many questions that needed to be answered by the project developer and therefore, it owed the public an explaination.
"We hope the Department of Environment (DoE) will not approve the project until the state government conducts another round of public consultation to answer various questions, including on affected residents and areas," he told reporters here today.
The Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd was awarded the project to build a 7.2km undersea tunnel linking Gurney Drive on the island to Bagan Ajam in northern Seberang Perai.
It will also be constructing three paired roads from Tanjung Bungah to Teluk Bahang, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway to Air Itam and Gurney Drive to the expressway. — Bernama
