Johor MB seeks end to 'launderette issue'

ULU TIRAM: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pix) has sought to put at end to the recent controversial issue of a Muslim-only self-service laundry shop in Muar.
Khaled responded to questions about the launderette by saying that the case has been closed.
He declined to comment further, having previously said that the owner of the laundrette has the right to serve which group he wished.
The issue became a hot potato and various quarters were heavily critical of laundrette, saying it had the potential to create racial polarisation.
Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching had suggested the need to have anti-discrimination law to prevent such thing from happening again.
The launderette in Muar was ordered to stop its discriminatory practice or face shut down by the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
The Star newspaper had reported the Sultan as saying he was "deeply appalled" by the action of the launderette owner as it would lead to more narrow-minded actions in the name of Islam.
Following this, the owner of the launderette apologised for his actions and is seeked an audience with the Johor Ruler to apologise personally to his majesty.
