Policeman dies in Johor motorcycle-car accident

JOHOR BARU: A policeman died after the motorcycle he was riding rammed into a car at Kilometre 24, Johor Bahru-Pontian Road here, past midnight.
Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said in the incident at 12.40am, constable Rashkhairul Aqil Raszali, 23, who was based at Skudai police station died on the spot.
He said the policeman failed to avoid a Perodua Myvi that veered into his lane without warning.
“Based on information, the driver of the car aged 20 was making a U-turn. Police also checked the road and found that it was lighted and in good condition,” he said in a statement here today.
Noor Hashim said the driver was remanded for three days from today after turning himself in at the nearest police station.
"He has a driving licence but we will investigate further. We hope members of the public who have further information could come forward to assist in the investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
