GUA MUSANG: A trailer driver was charged in the magistrate's court here for driving dangerously and causing the death of four family members, including a 13 day old baby.
The accused, Ismail Mohammad Zain, 31, pleaded not guilty to the charges read before Magistrate Mohd Rosly Mohamed Nawi.
Ismail was charged with driving a Hino-type trailer recklessly resulting in the death of the family of four at KM52 Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, here at 7.50am on Sept 29.
The deceased were Zainuddin Anuar, 30, wife, Raizuamira Daud, 31, their eldest daughter, Nur Annisa Sofea, 2, and toddler, Zayyan Nazreel, aged 13 days.
The accused was charged under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of RM20,000 upon conviction.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohd Waffy Ismail, offered bail of RM15,000 with one surety to the accused.
However, Ismail, who was not represented by a lawyer, applied to the court for a reduced bail because he had to bear the living expenses of his family.
Mohd Rosly then granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set Nov 19 for a recount date.
