JOHOR BARU: A late night raid on a Shia learning centre in Ulu Tiram, resulted in the arrests of 21 men, including three foreigners.
Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) director Amran A. Rahman said, the hour-long operation was jointly carried out with the police force, involving a total of 34 enforment officers.
The Shia sect is declared as a deviant movement in Malaysia, although a Jais statement in 2010 had exempted foreigners from the ruling.
Under the Control and Restriction of the Propagation of Non-Islamic Religions Enactment, any individual propagating the Shia ideology could be prosecuted in the civil court.
