JITRA: Team Salute Malaysia has finally concluded the northern post flood mission 2017 in Kedah and Perlis after all of its volunteers completed the post flood work in Kebangsaan Seri Banai here today.
The flood-stricken school was given a facelift after the volunteers painted the walls of the school starting yesterday.
Its president Datuk Rizal Mansor, who is also Special Officer to the Prime Minister, arrived at the school at 11 am before jointly attending the preschool graduation and excellence award ceremony with Kubang Pasu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum.
Meanwhile Rizal said he was deeply moved by the cooperation received from the state governments of Kedah and Perlis to carry out the activities and hoped such cooperation would continue in future programmes.
Apart from SK Seri Banai, the volunteers were also involved in post flood mission activities in Pendang, Alor Setar and Kangar, Perlis.
The idea for the mission, he said, was mooted by the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor who was recently in Kedah to attend the 'Siswi Cinta Negara' Convention programme in UiTM Merbok.
"She (Rosmah) saw for herself the floods affecting the state and during her trip back she asked our NGO to help in whatever way.
"After taking her advice, we have gathered volunteers from all over the country who were keen to take part in the mission," he said.
The flagging off was conducted by Rosmah on Friday at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in the federal capital, involving 53 four-wheel-drive vehicles and two buses carrying all 400 volunteers.
Besides the volunteers who represented all Umno Youth branches, the three-day mission was also participated by five medical specialists led by Datuk Dr Alwi Abd Rahman.
The NGO concerned will proceed to Jelutong and Bukit Bendera in Penang to hand over aid in the form of food and essential items to the flood victims there.
Team Salute Malaysia set up in 2014, has previously been involved in assisting flood victims in Kuala Krai and Kota Bahru in Kelantan and Temerloh in Pahang when these states were badly hit by floods.
Rizal said the programmes would continue to help not only flood victims but also the less fortunate in the event of disasters. — Bernama
