LAUNCHING Prof Tan Sri Dr Lin See Yan's latest book, Turbulence in Trying Times. What Are We to Do? at Sunway University on Sept 8, Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah had nothing but praise for the former banker and economist.
"We need authoritative guides to help us navigate through these highly unpredictable and even perilous times.
"In the capable hands of Tan Sri Lin, we can at least develop a better understanding of the nature of some of the weightier challenges we face," Sultan Nazrin commented in his address.
A follow-up to The Global Economy in Turbulent Times that was launched in 2015, the essays within Turbulence in Trying Times focuses on developments covering the recent past two-and-a-half years.
Hoping to initiate a conversation among readers and with leaders on serious global problems (especially in Asia), the book gives an account of world affairs since the beginning of 2015.
"The book is how I see events as they unfold and evolve, and what needs to be done.
"No holds barred," claimed Cheah in his speech.
He added, "The idea is to sift through masses of information.
"This includes fake news, which provides some basic analytics to enable readers to judge for themselves the efficacy of public promise."
Hosted by Cheah, Founding Trustee of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation and Chancellor of Sunway University, the event successfully launched a book that was a culmination of Lin's 50 years of experience in economics, as he dissects why the world economy is broken and in urgent need of structural reforms, not just more stimuli or negative interest rates.
