Local actor and two others arrested for involvement in housing scam

KUALA LUMPUR: A local actor with a "Datuk" title and two others were arrested for their alleged involvement in an affordable housing scam, which resulted in losses of RM6.2 million.
In revealing this, Bukit Aman Commercial Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police received 188 police reports on the scam.
The investors were offered to purchase a 1,650 square feet bungalow below market price, at RM60,000.
"However, the houses were never built, leading to police reports being lodged," he said in a statement here yesterday.
He said police on Monday detained the 38-year-old actor who is also the managing director of the property company at the Bukit Indah police station in Ampang.
"Checks in the suspect's office led the raiding team to seize a Nissan Fairlady, a BMW E92, three mobile phones, a PhD from the Samaritan Mission International University and documents belonging to the company," he said.
Acryl added on the same day, police caught another two men aged 45 and 29 at a condominium in Setapak here.
Two mobile phones and documents from the company were also seized from the duo.
The three suspects are being remanded for two days, beginning yesterday, and will be investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Acryl further stressed that the Federal CCID found that scammers these days manipulate the public based on their needs and develop all types of investments to attract the attention of possible victims.
"The public must carefully judge any investments which apparently looks extraordinary and seek advice from the relevant agencies to avoid falling prey to such schemes," he added.
