Photographer gets death threats over fake Facebook posting

PETALING JAYA: A prominent Malaysian photographer has been bombarded with death threats following a fake online posting made under his name that downgrades the Malays.
Keow Wee Loong said he was harassed through unknown phone calls and Whatsapp messages, making threats to himself and his wife, soon after the posting surfaced on the internet.
"One of the callers reminded me to be careful when I go out and watch out for a bullet in my head," he said, adding that many of the callers had used profanities and racially-charged tones against him.
"My wife was also targeted. She had to remove her number from her work webpage," he told theSun.
The posting on Facebook made on Sept 25 had stated that Singaporeans had rejected a Malay from becoming their president, adding that the Malays should not be given any political power.
The posting, which was made under a same name and profile picture of Keow's original account, also called for all Malays to be removed from Malaysia and Singapore.
Keow is known for his death-defying stunts of ascending to some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world to produce his work.
Keow said he had made a police report at Brickfields district police headquarters as soon as he was made aware of the posting.
He said the fake posting had since been re-posted by other Facebook accounts which according to Keow were owned by cybertroopers aligned to a political party.
He also believes he became the target of attacks as he had previously worked as a photographer for the opposition.
Keow however stressed that he was never a member of any political party.
"Some of the pages had removed the post as I had informed them of the police report," Keow said.
Keow said he was disappointed by the posting as it had not only tarnished his name but also painted a bad image of Malaysia.
"This is an issue involving two countries," he said, adding that he looked up to the newly-minted Singaporean president Halimah Yacob for her humility.
