Strong winds blow off zinc roof of flat

GEORGE TOWN: Strong winds in Nibong Tebal caused the flat zinc roof of Pangsapuri Merak Jaya here to be blown off at dawn today.
In the 5.45am incident, the building's wall of block B and units on the fourth floor were damaged.
Taman Merak Jaya Residents Association and Management Committee chairman Huan Voon Hee said two of the damaged units were occupied by foreigners, one was occupied by a local family, while the last unit was empty.
He said this was the fourth time since 2000, that the roof of block B had blown off.
"The third time the roof had blown off was in 2015," he told reporters here today.
Huan said the cost of the damage was estimated at RM130,000, and added that management funds would be used to bear the cost of repairs.
Bukit Tambun assemblyman Datuk Law Choo Kiang who visited the premises yeterday, said he and Batu Kawan MP P. Kasturi would seek help from the state government to obtain funds for repair work.
