LUMUT: Two more men were today ordered to be remanded by the Seri Manjung Magistrate's Court, here, to assist in the investigation into the assault of two Royal Malaysian Navy personnel while being detained at the detention unit in Sungai Wangi, Sitiawan, near here, last week.
The order was issued by magistrate Ainul Bashirah Dona Don Biyajid who allowed the two accused, aged 29 and 37, to be remanded for four days from today.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and also liable to be fined, upon conviction.
The two accused, clad in lock-up clothes, arrived at the court grounds about 8.30am in a police truck before being escorted out 30 minutes later.
Yesterday, the court allowed two RMN men, aged 29 and 37, to be remanded for seven days beginning Oct 2 to facilitate the investigation.
Magistrate Nur Shaqira Ibrahim issued the remand order in accordance with Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The arrest of the four came after two RMN men lodged a police report, claiming being assaulted by their colleagues at the RMN detention unit in Sungai Wangi, Sitiawan, recently.
The two injured are now placed in a special room at the men's surgical ward of the Armed Forces Hospital in Lumut.
Last Friday, two other navy men, Nik Muhammad Baihaqy Nik Mat, 28, and Muhammad Lailatulman Mohd Shukri, 26, died while being detained at the detention centre, believed to be from injuries based on the post-mortem reports. — Bernama
