SUBANG: Nine people, including activists from Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), were arrested today for protesting the demolition of three houses and two shops at Masjid Lapangan Terbang Subang.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din confirmed the arrests with theSun and said they were arrested because they were obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties.
"We have arrested them, but we won't be seeking a remand order, we will record their statements and release them on bail," he said, adding they all were in the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters.
A video of the fracas had gone viral in just a few hours where enforcement officers from the Shah Alam City Council, the Petaling district land office and protesters were engaged in a tussle.
The officers were trying to get the protestors out of the way of the quarters so that a tractor would be able to pass through them to commence the demolition.
The video ends with a few men being handcuffed by the police.
Among them were five Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members, including PSM secretary-general A. Sivarajan and PSM Youth chief Khalid Ismath.
    The others were four villagers.
The demolition of the houses, which were occupied by former airport mosque committee members, was carried out at 11am today.
In a statement by PSM committee member S. Arutchelvan, the nine arrested were not told why they were being arrested.
He added that the 17 people affected in this demolition do not have a place to stay.
He also placed the blame on the office of the Selangor Mentri Besar for claiming that they had issued a stop work order.
