NILAI: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Musa Ahmad said he would meet Oman's Cultural Attache in Malaysia this Friday to seek clarification on the country prohibiting its students from pursuing studies at four universities in Malaysia, including USIM.
"I hope to get an explanation from him why USIM has been categorised as one of four universities in Malaysia where Oman students are prohibited from pursuing their studies," he told reporters here today.
He was commenting on a recent report by Oman's news agency that the country's Higher Education Ministry had issued a banning order on its students to pursue studies at four universities in Malaysia, including USIM.
He said the news was very disappointing to USIM, a public university whose quality aspect was monitored directly by the government.
The report, he said, had cast aspersions on the university's quality of education among the public.
"On the first day when this news broke out, I held internal discussions to tackle the issue. I also met with several Omani students studying here," he said, adding even the students were perplexed with the ban.
According to Musa, there were 126 students from Oman currently pursuing their Masters and PhDs in various fields in USIM. — Bernama
