GEORGE TOWN: Ride-hailing service Grab officially launched its first driver centre in the northern region at Bayan Baru in Penang, yesterday.

He said some of the key services provided by the centre are ongoing queries, drivers registration, screening, and also training.
"It is also our hub for activities in the northern region, " he said at a press conference with Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Abdul Rashid Hasnon and SPAD Head of Operations (Group) Zamri Mahmud.
Grab currently offers services in 126 cities across Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar.
Goh said Penang is one of Grab's fastest growing markets, apart from other major cities like Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur.
"Penang has exceeded in every aspect," he said, without elaborating further.
In terms of safety, Goh expressed hopes other regulatory authorities will cooperate with Grab to ensure safety remains a priority.
"No such thing as safe enough, " he said, adding that safety must be further improved to make the ride-hailing service better.
Abdul Rashid who is also Pulau Jerejak assemblyman, said the establishment of the centre in his constituency would help cater to the needs of the drivers.
He said such services will continue to improve the state's transportation sector, bringing it to greater heights.
