ALOR STAR: The police have detained a Thai national suspected of being involved in the abduction of a four-year-old girl and theft of her father's car at a petrol station in Taman Mahsuri in Jitra three days ago.
The 24-year-old man was taken into custody when he surrendered about 4.30pm at the Kota Star police headquarters today. He has been remanded for four days, beginning today.
Kedah CID chief SAC Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid said the suspect gave himself up to the police after his picture went viral on social media.
He said the abduction occurred at 7.45am when the girl's father left her in a car with the engine running at a petrol station to answer a call of nature at a toilet.
"When he returned five minutes later, the 33-year-old man was shocked to find his daughter and the Honda Civic she was in, missing.
"Nevertheless, he managed to locate his daughter about 30m from the petrol station," he said, adding that the Thai national was remanded for four days, beginning today.
He said the victim's car was recovered by the police following the suspect's arrest and that the police were in the midst of tracking down the foreigner's two accomplices. — Bernama
