KUANTAN: The Kuantan District Social Welfare Office (PKMD) will meet the children of the 80-year-old Tang Ngad, who was found locked up in his house at Taman Inderapura yesterday, to discuss the welfare of the elderly man, including placing him at an old folks home.
Pahang Women and Family Development, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Datuk Shahaniza Shamsuddin said PKMD had suggested that Tang be placed at the Rumah Ehsan old folks home.
She said checks carried out by the Social Welfare Department found that Tang had been offered a place at the Social Welfare Department Institute, but he refused the offer.
"His children also have never contacted PKMD to discuss on their father's welfare. If they are not able to take care of their father, we suggest that he be placed at a welfare home," she said when contacted by Bernama, here today.
Shahaniza said Tang, who believed to be partially paralysed following a stroke, received RM300 in monthly assistance from the Welfare Department since 2013.
Yesterday, police had to cut a grille door of the house to rescue Tang who was found naked in a filthy room littered with faeces.
Tang, who claimed he was left by his children since last Monday, was then sent to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital medical examination. — Bernama
