115 Gambling premises inspected during raid

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 115 online gambling premises were raided around Kuala Lumpur in an operation codenamed "Op Waran Geledah" which ended here early this morning.
The operation from 8pm to 2am involved 35 officers and 175 men from five district police headquarters (IDP) namely the Dang Wangi, Cheras, Brickfields, Wangsa Maju and Sentul contingents.
Deputy head of the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (Intelligence/Operations) ACP Alzafny Ahmad said out of the total of 115 premises, only two in the Dang Wangi district namely in Jalan Ampang and Chow Kit still kept the simulator machines and computers used for online gambling.
He said that in the operation, police seized 55 computer keyboards, eight simulator machines, seven CPUs and four monitors in the two premises.
"Based on public information and intelligence carried out, we found that these 115 premises are believed to be active in carrying out operations although raids were frequently carried out,"he said at a press conference at the Dang Wangi IPD, here early this morning.
On Sept 27, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim had set up a special committee to eliminate gambling activities.
The special committee, headed by Noor Rashid focused on three major areas namely taking stern action on illegal gambling centres, syndicates and those assisting gambling activities. — Bernama
