Almost 80 summonses issued during integrated operation at Bukit Gantang

BUKIT GANTANG: A total of 76 summonses were issued to lorry and bus drivers for various offences during Óps Bersepadu' at km 225 at a lay-by (southbound) last night.
Commander of Highway North Zone 3, Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department (EMPV), ASP Hazil Reza Mohd Ghazali said among the offences committed were improper packing of goods on the lorry, not having side mirrors, non-possession of driving licence, having no brake lights and speeding.
He said his men also detected two cases of commercial vehicles using retreaded tyres which did not meet specified standards and this was most dangerous as it could lead to some layers of the tyre being scattered on the road.
"Tyres used by commercial vehicles if tanned on the road could lead to accidents especially at night,"he said at a media conference after Óps Bersepadu at the Bukit Gantang lay-by, here.
The two-hour long Ops Bersepadu from 10 pm, which was participated by personnel from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), Plus Berhad, Immigration Department and Puspakom, aimed to detect offences and negligence committed by drivers of commercial vehicles while on the road.
Hazil Reza said that throughout the operation, a total of 120 commercial vehicles were inspected comprising 80 lorries and 40 buses.
He said the AADK detained two lorry drivers aged 25 and 35 for driving under the influence of drugs.
He advised lorry drivers and operators to ensure that the safety levels and condition of the commercial vehicles were good.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the Ipoh Immigration Department, Suhaire a/l Bali said the department detained 14 foreigners including three Indonesian women for overstaying and non-possession of a valid travel document.
"We had inspected 258 individuals in the operation,"he added. — Bernama
