BUTTERWORTH: The recent incident of pupils at a primary school in Putrajaya being made to wave the Umno flag and sing of the party's song was a 'desperate' act, according to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Lim was baffled as to why the largest most dominant party in Barisan Nasional (BN) would resort to such actions.
He said something like this has never happened before during the tenure of former prime ministers.
"The act itself is akin to brainwashing ... it is disgusting," he said at a press conference after launching The Park in Mak Mandin today.
Lim was referring to a video clip showing pupils singing the Umno anthem and waving party flags when Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor visited the primary school in Putrajaya a few days ago.
Lim was unhappy as to why he was not allowed to enter a Chinese primary school in Sungai Lembu last month while Umno flags and its song could be waved and played at school.
"It is a case of double standards," he added.
He also pointed out that schools are sacred places for education and such negative elements should not be promoted calling on Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid to conduct his job properly.
"We are not autocracy state," he quipped.
Meanwhile, state Housing Department Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo also took the federal government to task over unfulfilled promises on housing allocation in Penang.
He urged the federal agency tasked to build housing units to do so for the betterment of people.
