PUTRAJAYA: MIC Youth has called on the government to set up a funding mechanism to enable deserving Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) students to pursue their desired higher education course without financial constraint.
In making this call, MIC Youth chief Datuk C.Sivaraj (pix) said the funding mechanism should be able to help these students enroll in their desired courses after a thorough evaluation of their academic performance, even if they wished to pursue their courses overseas.
He added every year, when the examinations results are out, the students who had scored well in their examinations such as 11As in SPM or Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) of 4.00 in STPM were often unable to get scholarships or their desired courses in public universities.
"This is a problem that has affected Malaysian students of all races. Therefore, I request MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to consider setting up a funding mechanism to help deserving students pursue their desired higher education course.
"As Malaysia is producing more excellent and high-scoring students, we should put in a place a mechanism to ensure we are capable of rewarding these high-scoring students with deserving courses.
"This is, after all, an investment that we will be making for the future generation of leaders in line with National Transformation 2050 (TN50)," he said in a statement here today. — Bernama
