PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government has proposed for strata housing maintenance charges to be included in the assessment collected by the Local Authorities (PBT) to overcome the problem of overdue payments.
Its minister Tan Sri Noh Omar (pix) said the matter would be discussed with the local authorities, besides taking into consideration the views of state housing executive council committees nationwide.
He said Joint Management Bodies (JMB) often faced problems in collecting maintenance fees from residents since the Strata Management Act 2013 was introduced.
"If possible (it should be included in assessment) but it requires more in-depth study to find the appropriate method.
"We want to instill a culture that when living somewhere, residents should have a sense of responsibility to take care of their place," he told reporters after opening the Strata Management Bodies Convention here, today.
Noh also held a townhall session at the event with about 1,000 participants comprising representatives from JMBs, Management Corporations (MC) and Commissioners of Buildings (COB).
