KUCHING: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) and Pos Malaysia will continue the strategic efforts to tackle new challenges and stiff competition in the postal industry, said Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Jailani Johari.
Although Pos Malaysia was faced with challenges and stiff competition, he said, postal services were still relevant, especially for rural folks.
"The collaboration between the KKMM and Pos Malaysia in various programmes such as 'Addresses For All' (AUS) and the Postal Transformation Plan for Sabah and Sarawak (PTPSS) is growing," he told reporters after launching the 2017 World Post Day for Sarawak region at the Kuching Main Post Office here today.
Jailani said the postal, logistics and e-commerce sectors in Sarawak was fast expanding with the PTPSS initiative which was a catalyst of change not just for the postal and logistics industry.
He said the Registered Postal Agents at the 1Malaysia Internet centres (PI1M), especially in the interior areas of Sabah and Sarawak under the third phase of the PTPSS programme, provided vital infrastructure to the rural community in their e-commerce transactions.
He said Pos Malaysia also acted as an agent at the approximately 840 PI1M centres in the country, including 130 in Sarawak to help the rural community market their products online.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Wireless Village broadband service, Jailani said it had been terminated and replaced with the PI1M which benefited the community more. — Bernama
