Seasoned criminal among six held over burglaries

SERDANG: A "seasoned" criminal who used to be fitted with an electronic monitoring device (EMD) before he was granted bail was among six individuals detained by police for committing a string of burglaries here.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said following a tip-off, police caught the suspect together with five others during during simultaneous raids in Chemor, Perak, and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur on Sept 29.
"The whole operation was triggered following a house break-in and vehicle theft from a house resident in Bandar Kinrara here on Sept 8.
"Investigators found that the four local men, a local woman and a Vietnamese woman all in their 30's have been active in committing burglaries and vehicle theft for about two months in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kedah," he told a media conference at the district's police headquarters here today.
Megat Mohamad Aminuddin added during the raid in a hotel at about 12.30am in Chemor, police also seized several stolen items comprising three luxury cars, 35 branded watches, eight digital cameras, break-in apparatus and five handbags.
"Three suspects from the group have previous crime records. Meanwhile, the mastermind has 17 criminal records and was fitted with an electronic monitoring device before he was granted bail," he said, adding that the mastermind was also investigated under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) previously.
Police believe with the arrests of the suspects, they have managed to solve 10 cases involving the group.
