KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today arrested three more individuals to assist in the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of RM1.5 billion from a Rural and Regional Development Ministry allocation meant for development projects in Sabah.
An MACC source said the trio were political party leaders, two from one party and one from another.
"The three of them were arrested at about 5pm today at the MACC offices in Tenom and Tawau," it said.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the arrests but declined to elaborate.
Last Thursday, the MACC arrested three individuals, one of them a former deputy secretary of a ministry division, over the graft probe.
About RM1.5 billion was allegedly siphoned off from a federal government allocation of RM7.5 billion meant for rural projects in Sabah between 2009 and 2015.
Those arrested earlier are being held under remand to assist in the investigation. — Bernama
