SERDANG: Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was today appointed Professor of Practice by the Putra Business School (PBS) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
His appointment as Professor of Practice – the first ever given out by PBS, formerly known as the Graduate School of Management - was to recognise his continuous efforts and commitment in bridging the gap between academics and industry practices.
UPM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datin Paduka Dr Aini Ideris announced the appointment at the PBS dialogue session with the menteri besar at UPM here.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Zambry described the appointment as an honour to all Perakians and he, as the state government head, was willing to share his experiences and knowledge related to management and leadership with PBS and UPM staff.
"This recognition will inject more spirit into the state government's administrative team to ensure that Perak, with the existing development modules, will continue to be streamlined, expanded and sustained for the continuation of a more sustainable future," he said.
At the event, Zambry also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PBS and Darul Ridzuan Institute (IDR), aimed at, among others, conducting joint research and projects on the interests of both parties.
Commenting on this, he said that as the think-tank to the state government, the IDR through the agreement signed, would play a part in discussions involving certain projects, including how PBS's expertise could be mobilised together to help develop Perak further.
The effort also involved IDR-related business and training programmes and future collaboration in planning and developing curriculum for new programmes at PBS, he added.
Commenting on the dialogue held, Zambry said it was aimed at sharing experiences and giving exposure to students and academics on the strategy introduced by the state government, until Perak managed to achieve various successes, including maintaining the state budget surplus for seven consecutive years and recording economic development as much as 5.7% last year. — Bernama
