KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) will not compromise with syndicates providing fake degrees, and has enhanced the multi-tiered authentication process to safeguard the integrity of its graduates.
USM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Asma Ismail, in a statement today said that USM had helped various parties to verify the authenticity of degrees, especially potential employers.
"It will be scrutinised by the review team from various divisions to ensure the authenticity of the documents. In addition, every degree issued by USM to its graduates, including Honorary Degree, is equipped with no less than 15 security features. These security features are kept confidential and will be reviewed periodically to ensure that they remain relevant," he said.
He also pointed out that USM placed high emphasis on choosing the right suppliers to print the degrees.
A news report today quoted Urusan Variety Intelligence Sdn Bhd’s managing director Mark Leow as saying that apart from Universiti Teknologi Mara and SEGi University College, there were many other institutions of higher learning whose fake degrees had been identified, including that of Universiti Putra Malaysia, USM and Taylor’s University.
Asma said those with doubts about degrees issued in USM's name could contact the Senior Assistant Registrar, Data and Records Section, Academic Management Division, Mohd Jalaludin Azizan, at 04-6533211/2924/3169, or email at jalaludin@usm.my. — Bernama
