PUTRAJAYA: A total of RM6.5 million funds have been raised for the Baiti Jannati@Federal Territory (FT) programme aimed to help repair the houses and settle the housing loans taken by hardcore poor to own their respective units at the People's Housing Project (PPR) and Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) public housing flats.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said by end of this year, 300 hardcore poor families at the flats could be assisted using the funds raised through the programme, which is an initiative of the Federal Territories' Badan Amal Kasih Ibu.
"The funds contributed by mostly private companies will be used to repair old units owned by these hardcore poor owners and also to settle their outstanding housing loans," he told reporters at the presentation of RM1 million donation from Mah Sing Foundation for the Baiti Jannati@FT programme here today.
Tengku Adnan said 28 families had been assisted under the programme during the last Ramadan, and another 53 families, who would celebrate Deepavali next week, would also receive assistance soon.
"We hope more companies will come forward to work with the ministry to provide better living conditions for the poor and hardcore poor under the programme," he added. — Bernama
