PETALING JAYA: The ceiling of popular holiday hotel, Avillion Hotel in Port Dickson collapsed early morning today, injuring a couple.
The couple were sleeping in their room on the seventh floor of the hotel with their five-year-old when the ceiling crashed. The child was not hurt.
They were taken to Hospital Port Dickson for outpatient treatment.
According to Port Dickson Fire and Rescue Department, the hotel's roof gave way and caused the room's ceiling to collapse.
"The fire department received the emergency call at around 4.20am. Eight personnel, a fire engine and a team from the Emergency Medical Response Service were dispatched," said station head Razif Mohd Harris.
"We are still investigating the cause of the incident and cannot rule out bad weather as a contributing factor."
In a press statement issued later in the morning, Avillion Hotel Group said it deeply regretted the incident.
"Our guests' safety is our utmost priority and the family of three who sustained minor injuries have received treatment as outpatients at Hospital Port Dickson. They are now back at the resort to rest and the resort staff are there to provide them with full support," Avillion's acting chief executive officer Amirul Azahar Baharom said.
The group is working closely with the authorities in the investigations and its in-house structural engineers will join the investigation, he added.
