KPDNKK collaborates with ATM to tackle leakage, embezzlement of subsidised items

JITRA: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) is currently addressing the issue of leakage and embezzlement of subsidised controlled items at the border in a bid to strengthen consumer rights.
Its enforcement division director, Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin, said the measure was implemented in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) by a smart partnership under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) which was believed to be able to tackle the issue more effectively.
"Normally, the security guards manning the border entrance would focus more on goods that are being smuggled in, rather than those being smuggled out. So through this cooperation we will also focus on goods being smuggled out especially subsidised goods such as cooking oil, cooking gas, fuel and sugar.
"Controlled items from our country like cooking oil is cheap because it is subsidised and should be fully enjoyed by the local people, instead of being smuggled out," he told reporters after officiating the briefing on the legislative aspects and laws enforced by the ministry's enforcement division to ATM officers and personnel at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Camp here today.
Mohd Roslan said the joint monitoring would be enhanced after the Malaysia-Thailand border gate operations at the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam began operating for 20 hours a day starting Nov 1. — Bernama
