PR1MA Corporation Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias said 8,475 PR1MA units had been completed with 934 keys handed over to the houseowners.
He said 11,944 PR1MA units with a market value of RM3 bililon had been purchased while more than 1.5 million Malaysians had registered with PR1MA; of the number, 166,972 had applied to buy PR1MA homes.
"Most of the PR1MA housing development projects are in Selangor, that is,19% or 48,419 units.
"Many of those in the M40 group prefer to reside in this state as it is a very important economic centre and offers ample employment opportunities. PR1MA is committed in its efforts to provide the necessary housing for them," he told Bernama.
To qualify for PR1MA housing, an applicant must be Malaysian with a household income of between RM2,500 and RM15,000, single or married aged 21 and above, and does not possess more than one property.
PR1MA is a housing development programme launched on July 4, 2011 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
It is entrusted to build 500,000 units of affordable homes priced at between RM100,000 and RM400,000, where 70% are 'high-rise'. The rest are mixed development, single storey terraced and double storey bungalows.
Each PR1MA house is priced lower by 20% to 30% of the market value. The media have earlier reported that 17,000 PR1MA units would be completed this year while another 35,000 units, next year.
"We hope PR1MA could become a catalyst in encouraging more private developers to be interested in building housing units for the M40 group," Abdul Mutalib said. — Bernama
