Two sisters claim trial to shoplifting food items

PETALING JAYA: Two sisters who pleaded not guilty to the charge of shoplifting various food items worth almost RM500, were sobbing in the Magistrate's Court, here, today.
Unemployed Nalira Shidika Kathemiran, 19, and her 17-year-old sister cried when the charge was read out to them before magistrate Salamiah Salleh.
They were charged with shoplifting food items including chicken nuggets, meat burger patties, milk powder and sugar at the AEON supermarket in One Utama, Bandar Utama, Damansara, here, at 6.56pm on Oct 5.
Both sisters, dressed in identical black T-shirts, were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
Deputy public prosecutor Mary Phoon Keat Mee appeared for the prosecution while the sisters were represented by lawyer Mohd Syazwan Mohd Hasan.
Salamiah allowed Nalira and her sister bail of RM2,000 and RM1,500 respectively in one surety each, and fixed Nov 8 for case mention. — Bernama
