KOTA KINABALU: The people, especially in Sabah, must take the opportunity to fully utilise the existing internet technology to generate income and enhance their potential in business.
Sabah Information executive councillor Datuk Sapawi Ahmad said the government had provided various digital entrepreneurship programmes such as e-Entrepreneurs and e-Rezeki to enable the people to generate income and compete with other entrepreneurs.
"The fast development in the digital world requires us to adjust to the situation in boosting the country's digital economy further," he said when officiating the state level #Negaraku: Social Media Seminar Media 2017 programme here today.
The one-day seminar themed 'The Social Media Affairs' is jointly organised by Sabah Information Department and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with the Multimedia and Communications Ministry Coordination Committee.
Sapawi also said internet abuse, especially among youths such as spreading false information and cyberbullying, should be curbed immediately as it would have an adverse impact on their future development.

He reminded digital citizens to practice the 'Tabayyun' mentality of checking the validity of news or matters before spreading them on the internet.
On the programme, Sapawi said the seminar was able to provide insight and awareness on current issues relating to social media threats and best self-control by ensuring digital citizens did not easily fall prey to negative things on the internet such as the spread of Daesh ideology and child sexual crimes.
It is also a platform to create first-class digital citizens who practised internet usage ethics that are safe, cautious and responsible, he added.
Over 300 participants comprising civil servants, non-governmental organisations, university students and bloggers attended the seminar. — Bernama
