PETALING JAYA: Kollywood's two mega stars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are expected to attend a star cricket tournament scheduled to be held on Jan 6 in Malaysia, India's thenewsminute portal reported.
The tournament is being held to raise funds for the South Indian Film Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam) building being constructed at T Nagar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Both stars command a big following in Malaysia.
In 2016, Rajnikanth spent several weeks in Malaysia to shoot his hit movie Kabali and scores of fans had turned up to watch the shooting of the film at several locations.
Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council chairman Vishal, who is also a top actor, said several stars apart from Rajini and Kamal would be there at the tournament's closing ceremony.
He said more details would be disclosed soon.
Vishal said that apart from cricket, various other events will also be conducted to raise funds for the association.
Karthi, the treasurer of the association, said a star night was also being planned in Malaysia, with dances and music by well-known film personalities.
Rajinikanth's next big movie, 2.0, a sequal to his earlier movie Endhiran, is hitting the silver screens in January and his appearance in Malaysia for the fund-raising event will help publicise the movie.
Directed by Shankar, and also starring Bollywood's top star Akshay Kumar, the multilingual film has a budget costing more than Rs 400 crores (RM26 million) and is touted to be one of the most expensive movies ever made in India. — Bernama
