IPOH: The Perak Youth Parliament and Youth State Assembly members will assist tahfiz schools in the state to perform fire safety checks.
Its Technology, Innovation, Communication and Multimedia committee chairman Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin said the objective was to ensure the schools would be able to tackle emergencies in cases of fire.
"Our members will visit the schools throughout the state to assist them," he told reporters after handing over four fire extinguishers during a visit to the Maahad Tahfiz Al-Qurab As-Syaafi in Kampung Baru Pekan Tambun, here on Wednesday.
"We will also identify schools which are not registered and collect records to be sent to the relevant authorities. This will include safety aspects of the buildings. As we know only 42 of such schools are registered while there are other schools which are not registered."
Muhammad Naim also stressed that staff members and pupils must be taught the method of using the fire extinguishers.
He also said the electrical wiring system of the tahfiz school in Tambun needs to be upgraded, adding that a report would be sent to the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, the school's headmaster Mohd Adil Mohd Fadzil said the application to register the school had been submitted in 2016, but they have yet to receive approval from the relevant authorities.
He said there are currently 13 pupils at the school which has been in operation since 2012.
