Agong attends 247th Meeting of Conference of Rulers

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V today attended the 247th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers, held for the second day, at Istana Negara, here.
The King was accompanied to the meeting by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
It was chaired by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and attended by all the Malay rulers or their representatives except for the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir.
Johor was represented by Tengku Temenggong Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim; Kelantan by its Regent, Tengku Dr Muhammad Fa-iz Petra; and Pahang by its Regent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The meeting started at 10am and the Malay rulers or representatives were accompanied by their respective mentris besar and the Yang Dipertua Negri of Penang, Malacca, Sabah and Sarawak, by their chief ministers.
Meanwhile the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad in a statement said during the meeting today, the Rulers were given a briefing on national defence by Armed Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.
The Rulers were also given a briefing on security by the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun and the economic situation by director-general of the Economic Planning Unit Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid.
Syed Danial said other matters were also discussed, namely the appointment of the members of the Education Service Commission and the members of the Advisory Board for the Coordination of Islamic Education.
Matters pertaining to Islam including views on the laws agreed at a Special Conference and the appointment of members of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs were also discussed at the meeting. — Bernama
