Increase of only one dengue case from Oct 1-7

PUTRAJAYA: The number of dengue cases reported for the week between Oct 1 and 7 showed an increase of only one case, totalling 1,194 cases, from 1,193 cases during the previous week, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
However, he said, the cumulative number of dengue cases saw a drop of 13,133 cases, to 71,641 cases from 84,774 cases during the corresponding period last year.
"The number of fatalities due to dengue also dropped to 150 cases during the same period last year, from 190 cases during the corresponding period last year," he said in a statement here today.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were 367 dengue epidemic localities reported in 14 states and 33 hotspot localities in seven states.
On Chikungunya, Dr Noor Hisham said no case was reported for the week between Oct 1 and 7, with the cumulative number of cases reported this year, still at 260 cases until last Sept 30.

The cases were reported in Kedah (190), Selangor (33), Johor (24), Kelantan (10), Perak (2) and Sarawak (one).
On the Zika virus surveillance monitoring by the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) and the Institute for Medical Research (IMR), he said, the test results of 1,622 blood samples and 31 urine samples of patients with symptoms of being infected with the virus were negative. — Bernama
