PETALING JAYA: Umno Sungai Besar division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos pulled a no-show despite his promise to make an appearance at the anti-kleptocracy rally at Padang Timur today.
Jamal, who is also the Red Shirt leader, had earlier promised to set up a fish stall at the venue at 12pm.
Until 7.30pm, there was still no sign of the controversial figure.
Jamal and his group had stated that they would be selling fish below market price at the "Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptorasi" (Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy) rally.
On Oct 12, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim had warned Jamal to cancel his plan to avoid disturbance at the rally.
Noor Rashid said the police would not hesitate to take action against Jamal if he insisted, and advised the leader to avoid provocation.
However, one of Jamal's close associates Razali Zakaria was seen near the rally's venue, raising questions on Jamal's whereabouts.
When pressed by media on whether Jamal would proceed with his plan, Razali simply replied: "we will wait".
Jamal had previously courted controversies due to his mind blowing antics against the opposition.
One of his most memorable gimmicks was showing up in front of the Selangor state secretariat building, clad in only a bathrobe, to stage a protest against water disruption in the state.
