JOHOR BARU: The body of Syzlin Hataman, who was jailed for four years and stranded in Peru's capital since 2010 after being used as a drug mule by an international drug syndicate, is expected to arrive at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Tuesday.
Syzlin, 43, from Johor, died at 6.50 pm local time at the Nacional Dos de Mayo Hospital in Lima on Oct 7 due to complications of several diseases including asthma and diabetes.
Umno Welfare Bureau (BIKUM) chairman Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the woman's body would be repatriated from Lima on a KLM flight and was expected to arrive at the KLIA on Tuesday afternoon before being taken straight away to Tun Hussien Onn Mosque in Larkin near here, for prayers and later to the Kebun Teh Muslim cemetery for burial.
"We pray that all arrangements for her repatriation and funeral that we have made over the past two weeks, will run smoothly. Right now, the matters are being handled by our embassy's representatives in Peru, including sanitising and embalming the body for repatriation.
"BIKUM would also like to thank all quarters involved in the repatriation of the body, including the Wisma Putra, Johor Umno Liaison Committee and Johor Bahru Umno division, as we know the process had been quite complicated," he told reporters after meeting Syzlin's aunt, Robiah Abdullah in Larkin Jaya, here today.
Also present were Johor Bahru Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad and Johor Bahru Wanita Umno Welfare Bureau chairman Faridah Mustafa.

Shamsul Anuar said all the costs for the repatriation and funeral arrangements were borne by BiKUM with the help from Johor Umno Liaison Committee and Johor Bahru Umno division.
He said what was important was for all quarters to understand that Syzlin was a victim of an international drug syndicate and that her story should be a lesson to others.
On the fate of two other Malaysian women stranded in Peru after also being used as drug mules, Shamsul Anuar said efforts to bring both Noor Suzanna Azmi, 35, and Noor Azimah Sapie, 37, would begin after Syzlin's funeral.
He said the process would not be as easy and would need a lot of documentation work because both Noor Suzanna and Noor Azimah had children with non-Malaysian spouses.
Meanwhile, Robiah thanked all quarters who had helped in the repatriation and funeral arrangements for her niece.
"I hope Allah will ease everything for her and the burial can be carried out as soon as possible," she added. — Bernama
