PETALING JAYA: The Anti-Kleptocracy rally ended with no untoward incident despite not getting the green light from the police.
Rally organisers announced that 25,000 people attended the event held at Padang Timur here.
The anti-kleptocracy rally began at 4pm with speeches from Pakatan Harapan NGO leaders.
The crowd was also entertained by cultural shows such as the lion dance, silat and musical theatres.
The event highlight saw PH Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad delivering his speech and reading out the PH manifesto.
In his speech, Dr Mahathir said one of their priorities if they win the coming general election would be fight against corruption and place those involved in graft behind bars.
Apart from abolishing the GST, the former premier said they would also improve subsidies for petrol and sugar.
The event ended at about 11pm.
On Wednesday, Inspector-General of police Tan Sri Muhammad Fuzi Harun said that the police would not allow the rally to be held at the venue.
Earlier, PH deputy president, Lim Guan Eng said PH would continue the Barisan Nasional's initiative 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) if it comes into power though it had previously accused the assistance as a tool to fish for votes.
"We will ensure that BR1M will continue to be paid to all Malaysians," he said.
He also pledged that PH would abolish the Goods and Services Tax if the opposition win the national election.
