Strong winds wrecks havoc in Labuan

LABUAN: Strong winds fuelled by the monsoon season continued to wreak havoc in Labuan, blowing off rooftops, damaging houses and uprooting trees since Friday night till early Sunday.
The latest incident was last Saturday night with one house in Kg Lubok Temiang being partly damaged when strong winds blew the roof off, increasing the number of houses damaged to five.
At least the roofs of three houses in the water village of Kg Bebuloh Laut and in Kg Sg Keling were blown off and badly damaged Friday night.
However, no casualty was reported.
Kg Lubok Temiang village head Nordin Ahmad when contacted said local authority, Labuan Parliamentary Community Service Centre [PKM]) and Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) would channel aid to the victims soon.
"I hope those residing in the coastal area and also the fishermen would take extra precaution in view of the current weather condition," he reminded.
PKM chief Basran Yunus said assistance had been channelled to the victims in Kg Bebuloh Laut and Sg Keling, while victims in Kg Lubok Temiang would receive the aid soon.
The Labuan Fire and Rescue Department also received a number of emergency calls concerning fallen and uprooted trees along the street in several villages.
The Meteorological Department of Malaysia has warned the first category of strong winds would continue until Oct 17. — Bernama
