PUTRAJAYA: Former Road Transport Department (RTD) deputy director-general Datuk Yusoff Ayob was fined the maximum RM2,000 for illegally using the emergency lane during a traffic jam.
Magistrate Muhammad Zaki Abd Kudos found Yusoff guilty of the offence, folllowing the testimony and submissions heard in court during the trial.
He meted out the maximum RM2,000 fine, in default four months prison.
Yusoff, 58, was charged on July 18 with driving a vehicle with the plate number BLY 68 on the emergency lane in Lingkaran Putrajaya here at 6.27pm on Oct 7 last year.
During mitigation, Yusoff's counsel lawyer Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu called on the magistrate to impose an adequate sentence.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Izzat Fauzan then urged the court to impose an exemplary sentence, with a fine and prison time so that others would not commit similar offences in the future.

At present, Yusoff is currently serving the Public Service Department following a transfer on July 21.
