CYBERJAYA: Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is currently looking at the possibility of introducing a secure Digital ID platform to be used by both the public and private sectors to enhance trust, said its chairman, Tan Sri Dr Halim Shafie.
He said the move was essential, particularly for transactions requiring a high level of privacy and security assurance such as those related to healthcare and finance.
Halim said MCMC's Internet User Survey conducted in 2016 revealed that only 36% of those interviewed used e-banking services, adding that security concerns were one reason for this rather low percentage.
"We believe the key to increasing the use of digital services is through enhancing trust and enforcing cybersecurity. There is a simple link between cybersecurity, trust and the digital economy," Halim said this at at the Malaysia FinTech Awards 2018 soft launch, held at the MCMC headquarters here today.
He said the Malaysia FinTech Awards 2018 was the first technology business award ceremony which recognised the achievements of the most innovative financial technology companies in Malaysia.
The event, scheduled to be held on Mar 8, 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, would also include a forum on market trends and issues in the financial technology industry, apart from the award ceremony gala dinner, he said.
Halim said among the categories up for contending are FinTech Personality of The Year, FinTech Start-Up of The Year, FinTech Innovation of The Year, Prominent Banking Applications of The Year, and FinTech Company of The Year.
Meanwhile, Persatuan Usahawan Dinamik Chairman, Datuk Rosthman Ibrahim, said Malaysia FinTech Awards 2018 would open opportunities for all entrepreneurs to expand their network and business to a wider market.
